Until The Quiet Comes
Ibrah Silas Jackson received a grant to conduct artistic research in preparation for a new performance. In 2026 he will present Until The Quiet Comes, his first full-length work, which explores the experiences of a young man of colour and the expectations placed upon him by society, his peers, and himself. The performance takes the form of a vivid journey through the past, where choices were made, to the present status quo, and towards the future, where expectations take shape. Through artistic research, Ibrah aims to delve into both the content and the form of the work in the lead-up to its premiere.
Ibrah is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam with Ugandan roots. His work is grounded in hip-hop culture and enriched by influences from modern dance, funk, and African styles. At the core of his practice lies the telling of stories about the experience of young Black men, combining movement with visual elements. In 2024 he created the short performance Unravel Threads as part of VIERxVIER at Theater aan de Rijn, which toured across the Netherlands. His earlier work The Hereditary was presented at Breakin’ Convention (London), Kampnagel (Hamburg), and Malmö Dance Week. This autumn The Hereditary will be shown at Afrovibes Festival and the San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest.
