ÁMÀL Ensemble
Háshem Kabreet received a grant for the development of new music. Háshem is a passionate percussionist, handpan player, composer and bandleader. Rooted in Syria, shaped by Lebanon & Dubai, and now based in the Netherlands, his musical journey began with deep immersion in Arabic and Middle Eastern music. Studying under various teachers in Latakia and Beirut, he developed a rich foundation in regional traditions. Over the years, he expanded his repertoire, mastering a wide range of percussion instruments—including Daff, Riq, Darbouka, Cajón, Djembe, and Hybrid Drum-kit—and exploring diverse global styles.
ÁMÀL Ensemble brings an eclectic blend of Arabic themes, Latin grooves and impro-jazz. This Amsterdam based band of seven young musicians with roots in Syria, Siberia, Mexico and France create a unique, mesmerizing sound. Feel the soulful echoes of the buzuk, dream away with the enchanting hand-pan and rich harmonies of the cello and move to the stomping Mexican rhythms.
ÁMÀL is the Arabic word for ‘hopes’ (plural) and that is exactly what the band brings. Let’s forget about boundaries and discover a world of music where every note is a story and each melody a journey.
