Development grant

Chaerin Im received a grant to record new music. For this new project, she invited some of her favorite Amsterdam musicians to perform freshly written material. Expect an exciting and deeply emotional set mixing and layering sounds inspired by everything from free-improv to electronic music. She will collaborate with Matteo Mazz, Siebren Smink and Ludvig Søndergaard.

Chaerin Im is a South Korean pianist and improviser who lives and works in Amsterdam and Seoul. She is an essential part of Amsterdam's burgeoning Jazz scene and has recorded and performed with many talented musicians including Pablo Held, Ben van Gelder, Reinier Baas, Jasper Høiby, Anton Eger, Ernst Reijseger and Sun-Mi Hong to name a few. She released an experimental improvisational album The Back Of Beyond in 2022 as a co-lead with producer Song youngnam under a South Korean record store/label, Sounds Good Store. After the release of The Back Of Beyond, she also presented her own music. She was selected as a Young Maker for Amsterdam Jazzfest 2023 and has performed at major festivals and venues across Europe, including North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz Ahead, BIMHUIS, Unterfahrt, London Jazz Festival, Cologne Jazz Week, Moods, Oslo Jazz Festival, Minaret Records show in Los Angeles and more.
