Harnas van zout

Maureen Ghazal

Maureen Ghazal received a grant for developing new work. In her poetry collection Harnas van zout, Maureen explores the various aspects underlying displacement. This includes displacement in relation to the body and the (birth) land. In the collection, she examines how memories can be kept alive in the face of loss, and how the physical and landscape-based home can continue to exist. The female voice plays a central role, leaving its mark on different landscapes.

Maureen is a poet and writer. In her work, she explores the significance of birthplace, the connection between body and landscape, ancestral customs and rituals, and womanhood. Her work has been published in De Gids, De Revisor, and Extra Extra Magazine, among others. In 2025, her chapbook Ik, Waterlichaam was published by Wintertuin.
