Cook Limbo
Ko-Yu Huang received a grant for the development of Cook Limbo, a multi-sensory ethnography exploring how non-EU migrant artists in the Netherlands navigate fragmented identities across three conflicting kitchens. Drawing from three years in hospitality and conversations with peer artists, the project asks: How does handling food become devalued as 'menial service' in one context, yet elevated as 'artistic expression' in another? This project will explore archiving workplace documents and interviews into a zine, translating kitchen labour into performance rituals, and documenting these through video, transforming individual struggles into a collective archive challenging the hierarchy between servant and creator.
Ko-Yu is a Taiwan-born interdisciplinary artist based in the Netherlands. Her work often explores memory, diaspora, and cultural identity through sensory experiences. Through a practice that bridges event management, graphic design, and sensory-driven art, she creates platforms that connect visual, auditory, and gustatory elements into immersive experiences. Her diverse journey shapes her practice as a space for cultural encounters and compelling narratives.
