GEVAARLIJK SPEL
In the performance series GEVAARLIJK SPEL, theatre maker and former professional footballer Rory de Groot, in collaboration with Theater de Richel, takes the audience on a compelling exploration of the FIFA World Cup as a political and historical phenomenon. Together with sports historian Jurryt van de Vooren, Rory delves into nearly a century of World Cup history, from 1930 to 2026.
These performances do not focus on facts, but instead reveal the deeper layers: how football is inextricably linked to power, propaganda, identity, and political struggle. Each show serves as a theatrical pre-show to a World Cup match being played that same evening. After the performance, the audience has the opportunity to watch the match together with Rory on a big screen in the theatre.
