Prelude to Now

UJazz, ZenneZ Records, and TivoliVredenburg jointly organize the concert series New Jazz, showcasing newly released albums. On Friday, April 3, 2026, the Ernesto Montenegro Quintet will perform their album Prelude to Now.

Prelude to Now is the debut album by trumpeter and composer Ernesto Montenegro. His compositions are influenced by Black American music, particularly post-bop jazz, and are characterized by intricate harmonic structures and improvisation. The album features original works inspired by Montenegro’s hometown of Firgas (Canary Islands) and his current place of residence, Amsterdam.

The Ernesto Montenegro Quintet has previously performed at festivals such as Canarias Jazz & Más Festival (Canary Islands), Jazz Plaza (Cuba), Festival Internacional de Música de Cancún (Mexico), Jazz au Chellah (Morocco), and Jammin’ Juan (France). The ensemble consists of renowned musicians from the Amsterdam jazz scene.
