Noorderzon X Amarte: VELVET

What happens when you give musicians, sound artists and makers from different disciplines complete freedom after sunset? Noorderzon, Amarte, Simplon and STROMING organised an open call with which they invited artists to submit their proposals for three nights built entirely around experimentation. Each evening is shaped from scratch by a different artist or collective, with work that doesn't easily fit within the walls of a music venue, the format of a club night, or the context of a traditional presentation space.

On the 29th of August, as part of the Noorderzon Festival Night Programme, visitors can experience VELVET: a queer club experience created by artist and drag performer Jurjen Galema a.k.a. Lola Lasagna, inviting you into a colorful world full of soft sculptures, performances and music. The dance floor transforms into an imaginative universe populated by creatures, drag performers and dancers. With VELVET, the boundaries between visual art, performance and nightlife blur, creating a safe space where everyone is welcome.
