After a Tempest
From June 12 to 25, 2026, Felix Meritis will present After a Tempest, a satirical short film installation by Alex Raúl. In this work, Alex explores how revolutionary desire and the longing for an opaque pre-colonial past relate to the enduring realities of the neocolonial global order. It also raises the question of how postcolonial elites repurpose symbols of resistance and pre-colonial heritage to maintain that order.
Inspired by Aimé Césaire’s 1969 play Une Tempête (itself an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest from 1623), Alex takes the viewer to a fictional island, where, on the evening of its 50th anniversary of independence, the contradictions of the postcolonial condition come to the surface.
