Thixocymatics
Thixocymatics is a kinetic sculpture that explores the fragile boundary between order and collapse. The work was created through a collaboration between an artist and a scientist. Using tools from the construction industry, specifically formwork materials, the artist developed an instrument that precisely manipulates a block of thixotropic calcium. Rather than forming stable patterns, the material resists predictability: it slowly shifts and continuously reshapes itself into an evolving, unstable landscape.
This project was realized in collaboration with Dr. Eduardo Mendes, Associate Professor at TU Delft, where his research focuses on Functional Soft Matter. It is part of the residency Crossing Parallels at TU Delft and was made possible with the support of Amarte Fonds and Cultuurfonds.
