Mixed Feelings
The exhibition Mixed Feelings presents a video installation by Vita Soul Wilmering, inviting visitors to enter a spatial collage of intimate film scenes. The installation explores the boundary between reality and fiction, where personal experiences are reinterpreted and presented as an interplay of imperfection, vulnerability, and emotional openness. The result is a visual and emotional landscape that reflects on memory and transformation.
For this solo exhibition at Billytown, Wilmering has developed a new video installation consisting of six large projections. These projections are based on overlapping stories and scenes drawn from both her earlier films and new video work.
As part of the accompanying program, Wilmering has organized three lectures by speakers from diverse disciplines—medicine, historical research, and poetry. Each speaker engages with intimate and personal themes central to their work, connecting in various ways to the themes of the exhibition. The lectures will be held in English.
The exhibition opens on May 29, from 19:00 to 23:00. The accompanying program includes the following lectures:
- June 5, 18:00: The matter of solidarity; solidarity matters by Sudha Rajagopalan.
- June 13, 14:00: Rethinking illness through art, science and experience by Vera Liselotte Broek.
- June 20, 16:00: Queer poetics of trust by Parel Joy (photo by Gert Jan van Rooij).
More information about the full program will soon be available on the Billytown website.
