Saturno Santos' Something
Gabriel de Oliveira received a grant for developing a debut album with Saturno Santos' Something (SSS). SSS is a multicultural large ensemble that brings together young voices rooted in the languages of jazz and the folk traditions of Brazil, South Africa, Italy, and beyond. Founded in 2023 within the collective KB_ as a laboratory for imaginative global pop, the group transforms into various constellations with a collective punk ethos. In recent years, SSS has carved out a unique space and a loyal following by performing at festivals and venues such as NSRT, Space is the Place, WORM, and Cinetol, as well as in DIY basements, squats, and stages of all kinds. They collaborate closely with emerging names in the Dutch creative music industry, such as Chaerin Im and Alessandro Mazzieri, who are integral to their upcoming debut album. With magical thinking and a desire to explore the intersections of song and improvisation, they weave explosive grooves and subtle melodies into a colorful ritual. Their vision: to foster authentic creative languages that strengthen their community.
Gabriel is a graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, received a Berklee Aspire scholarship in 2017, and has since performed with a diverse range of artists, including Toninho Horta, Oscar Jan Hoogland, Mestre Anderson Miguel, Seu Estrelo, Ben Lamar Gay, Sun-Mi Hong, and members of Boogarins. Gabriel works with sound in a non-disciplinary way, seamlessly navigating between guitar, saxophone, voice, performance, and cultural work. Their bold yet subtle musicality is inspired by movements within Brazilian and global creative music and songwriting, intertwining tradition and avant-garde. In addition to leading SSS and preparing their debut album with vocalist Beatrice Sberna, Gabriel organizes the independent collective-label KB_, which focuses on supporting new globalized music scenes. Gabriel is currently working on recordings with NYC-based collaborators such as Wendy Eisenberg and Brandon Lopez.
