OBRYAD

Maryana Golovchenko received a grant for the development of new music. OBRYAD (Ukranian for ritual) is a contemporary music project inspired by traditional Ukrainian spring songs. Combining ancient polyphonic singing with new arrangements for voice, cello, percussion, and community choir, the project explores how ritual, collective singing, and acoustic space can be reimagined for today's audiences. Building on a successful live premiere, OBRYAD will culminate in a studio album that brings together professional musicians and community voices, celebrating the power of collective music-making and the enduring relevance of living musical traditions.

Maryana is a Ukrainian-born vocalist, curator, and educator based in the Netherlands. Her work brings together traditional vocal practices, improvisation, and contemporary music, creating performances that combine artistic experimentation with community participation. Drawing on Ukrainian vocal heritage as a living artistic language, she collaborates across disciplines and cultures to explore themes of memory, collective voice, and belonging. Through concerts, recordings, and participatory projects, she creates spaces where tradition and contemporary artistic practice meet in new and unexpected ways.
