end//ess

Adrian Bifano

Adrian Bifano received a grant for the development of his debut album titled end//ess. A guitar trio sits at the heart of the music, with guitar as the main voice and the interaction between the musicians shaping the way the compositions unfold. Live playing blends with electronic production, processing and overdubs until the line between performance and production starts to disappear. The music moves freely between jazz, alternative music, electronic music, hip-hop and songwriting, without trying to settle into any of them. Improvisation and composition exist side by side, with an emphasis on sound, atmosphere, melody and interaction. The result is a reflective, dream-like record that keeps the freedom and depth of improvised music while placing it in a broader musical world.

Adrian is a Venezuelan guitarist and composer based in Amsterdam. Active in the Dutch jazz and improvised music scene, he has performed in the Netherlands and across Europe, appearing at festivals including North Sea Jazz Festival, North Sea Round Town, Bucharest Jazz Festival and Canarias Jazz & Más. He has worked with musicians including Ben van Gelder, Jasper Blom and Benjamin Herman. His artistic language is rooted in jazz and improvisation, but shaped by a much wider curiosity. He is interested in finding connections between sounds, ideas and aesthetics that may not seem explicitly related, using those intersections to develop a personal artistic language that isn’t defined by genre.
