Gerief

Celine Vervaet received a grant for the development of a new book. Gerief is a literary novel about grief that changes shape but never truly passes. Hella’s search for a life after her brother’s suicide takes the reader into a world where sorrow, hope, longing, and love are inseparably intertwined.

Celine is a Flemish writer who lost her heart in Rotterdam and now lives and works in Schiedam. She writes about grief as something everyday, persistent, and deeply human. Her characters often wander through cities and nostalgia, drawn to and repelled by one another in a world that hurts, yet still holds so much beauty, for those willing to see it.
