Napalm Death Quartet

Aaron McLaughlin

Aaron McLaughlin received a grant for the development of new work. In this project, he collaborates with a composer to translate songs by Napalm Death, a death metal and grindcore band from the Midlands (UK), into compositions for a classical quartet. The project explores what happens when sound is lifted from its cultural habitat, shifting between genres, traditions and systems of value. Developed through transcription, rehearsal and performance, the work will culminate in a public presentation and modest recording release, extending across visual, musical and performative forms.

Aaron is an interdisciplinary artist working in sculpture, film, performance, installation, curation and collaborative practices. Working with those marginalised by institutional processes and appropriating common forms, his practice joins objects, procedures and communities to reframe accessibility and question how art contexts control flows of people, ideas and aesthetics.
