Obductie
Andreas van de Laar received a grant to develop Obductie: an intimate documentary about the legacy of migration, seen through the eyes of the maker himself, the son of Amsterdam’s first Moroccan social worker. When his father dies in Spain, Andreas embarks on an investigation into the man who saved countless young people but left his own family behind. Through conversations with family members, former colleagues, and friends, a layered portrait emerges of a generation that helped build the Netherlands yet was never fully accepted. The film explores not only a father–son relationship, but also the failure of a country that forgot its bridge builders.
Andreas is a Dutch filmmaker and visual storyteller who connects personal narratives with societal themes such as migration, identity, and heritage. His recent work, including Nas mn Amsterdam for Amsterdam750, examines the legacy of migration in the Netherlands and the invisible tensions between generations. Andreas makes films that balance documentary and poetry: personal in tone, political in meaning, and always aimed at reclaiming voice and perspective.
