Dead Duck Day

Thomas Stokmans

Thomas Stokmans received a grant to develop the film Dead Duck Day: a hybrid documentary that delves into the wondrous world of biologist Kees Moeliker, internationally renowned for his Ig Nobel Prize for a homosexual, necrophiliac duck. A sensory and humorous film that makes the viewer ‘first laugh, then think’, it explores the absurd relationship between humans, the city, and nature, showing that wonder is everywhere, if you learn to look closely.

Thomas is a filmmaker and art historian working at the intersection of documentary and fiction. His work (including IFFR selections Vader op Zoon and Landschap met Twee Eiken) is characterised by a poetic, observant style. With his feature film debut Meneer L. (Movies that Matter 2025), he demonstrates his talent for socially engaged storytelling, staging reality in order to arrive at a deeper truth.
