This is not a walk in the park

Nikki Ong received a contribution to develop the performance This is not a walk in the park in collaboration with Bodine Sutorius. The makers found each other in their concern for the ecological crisis in which the world finds itself. They decided to join forces and create a performance about how humans can feel part of an ecosystem. To explore this, they decided to trek to the wilderness of Lapland and hike 440 kilometers. Now they bring their experiences together in a mime performance, in which an urban woman tries to become part of the nature she has felt alienated from for so long.

Nikki is a writer and playwright. She graduated from the Writing For Performance program at HKU in 2023. She previously worked as a playwright for JTSZO, translator for NITE and also works as a dramaturg. She also writes prose, poetry and makes music. With her graduation work Waterwezen: een poging om geen mens te zijn, she won the Pluijm research prize.
