MY VOICE IS NOT / WILL NEVER BE YOURS

Mara Snip

Mara Snip received a grant to develop new work. MY VOICE IS NOT / WILL NEVER BE YOURS is a call to create a new world. Mara invites the audience to imagine a future built on abolitionist thought, collective liberation, and shared care. As a trans warrior priestess, she embodies an alternative to the oppression of patriarchal and capitalist violence. She moves beyond what seems unchangeable, singing musical landscapes that reawaken the imagination. Mara summons this imaginative power to initiate a transformative process for a life that thrives amid climate, health, political, and economic crises.

Mara has lived in Berlin for over five years. She is a theater maker, performer, actress, and writer active in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. She describes her work as drama-electronic, documental music theatre. Writing from her personal trans experience, she shares it by creating musical landscapes using voice, loop station, and synthesizer. Where public spaces are often not designed for trans people, she takes matters into her own hands within the theater. There, she has the opportunity to shape space from her longing for new, inclusive worlds and invites the audience to carry that queer future with them afterward. In recent years, she has created and performed two solo shows in residence at HNT in The Hague, collaborated with Boogaerdt&VanderSchoot in Amsterdam and at Oerol, and adapted, co-directed, and performed in 1000 AIRPLANES ON THE ROOF by Philip Glass at Neuköllner Oper in Berlin.
