Het Testament van de Mensen

Kathlyn Wuyts

Theatre-maker Kathlyn Wuyts received a contribution to join notaries Mike van Kuypers and Aislynn Draijer in an attempt to write a Testament of Humans. In it, everything we (humans) leave behind after our extinction is legally transferred to nature. From this quest, she creates a location performance in collaboration with musician Vos van der Noordt, performer Martine van Ditzhuyzen and scenographer Thomas Maas and final director Mirjam Veldhuijzen van Zanten: a poetic and musical live essay. With this, she explores the making of interactive journalistic theatre, which is as much a poetic, philosophical thought experiment as an actual legal and activist conversation about providing inheritance rights to non-human heirs.

Kathlyn is an actor, theatre-maker and journalist-in-training. She graduated from Amsterdam's drama academy in 2019 and has since been writing plays with a poetic-activist documentary slant. For the performance Vaste Grond (Het Debuut 2019), she interviewed 12 elderly people in Bruges, with whom she recorded music. She interviewed farmers and market vendors for De Oogst (Het Markttheater), spoke with believers for God in de Nacht (in collaboration with theatre-maker Momo Samwel), exchanged letters on the street with strangers during the corona crisis, and wrote the family performance Een Aardig Sprookje on circularity together with Theater Decibel. She also writes and sings Dutch-language music for Medemens (together with Annick Sickinghe and Douwe Bosma), works on a solidarity theatre field with Ensemble Nieuwe Theaterwerkers and studies journalism and science communication at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
