THE NEWS

Olaf Zwetsloot received a contribution for the development of the debut album of THE NEWS, a new jazz quartet consisting of Humberto Albores, Joeri Baldinger, Robin van Geerke and Olaf Zwetsloot. The quartet plays original compositions that take you to the boulevards and metro stations of the future. The repertoire is influenced by minimal music, funk, (Latin) jazz, hip-hop, a perfume by Edmond Roudnitska, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and brutalist architecture.

Olaf is a self-taught musician, composer and all-round creative. He is also a saxophonist with a unique lyrical tone, an adventurous style and a focus on the music of the future. Olaf grew up among the brutalist gallery flats of the Bijlmermeer, which has strongly influenced his life and music. In 2023, he founded the jazz formation THE NEWS to capture the spirit of this era and to give voice to what it feels like to be among the stars.
