Maarten Combrink Quintet

Maarten Combrink

Maarten Combrink received a grant to record new music. In a world focused on high frequencies, the Maarten Combrink Quintet delves into the realm of low frequencies to explore the unconventional consonance of the trombone and bass clarinet. Two of the wind instruments with the greatest range, both in register and variety of sounds, creating a palette of endless colors and possibilities. Supported by an all-star rhythm section, the music takes a different creative turn each time.

Maarten is a Dutch jazz trombonist and composer. Through his eagerness to learn, his versatility and his professionalism, he is quickly developing into one of the most active trombonists in the Netherlands in a wide variety of styles. He plays extensively with the Metropole Orchestra and is part of the Peter Beets New Jazz Orchestra, Spinoza Orkest, Gerardo Rosales Quartet, Jasper Blom Bigband, Eric van der Westen PTM, Huize Lucas, All Ellington and BvR Flamenco Bigband. After winning the 2021 ITA Carl Fontana Competition, he recently won the J.J. Johnson Trombone Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah.
