Leonardo Prieto Ensemble

Leonardo Prieto Dorantes received a grant to develop new music with the Leonardo Prieto Ensemble. The ensemble's original music and unique style explore sounds from contemporary classical and modern jazz influenced by traditional music from Mexico and Cuba. Since their album release at De Doelen, they have experienced many highlights with their new album, including concerts at Amsterdam's International Theater, Brebl, Studio 150 and a tour of Mexico.

Leonardo is a Mexican composer and multi-instrumentalist based in the Netherlands where he graduated with a double major in composition and piano. He was invited to teach at Rotterdam Conservatory, where he studied, and other conservatories in the Netherlands and different parts of Europe. He is a versatile musician and his music ranges from contemporary classical music to popular music. Academically, his music has been played by renowned instrumentalists from Mexico and Europe. He has collaborated with various ensembles, orchestras, dancers and artistic projects, composing a wide variety of works including pieces for concerts, arrangements and sound installations. He was recently nominated at the Rotterdam Music Awards in the category of Best Song and Best Album of the Year 2022 with Son de Aqui.
