Julián Garvayo Pérez-Requeijo received a grant to develop his debut EP. With his international sextet, the trombonist and composer presents a powerful and personal debut in which Afro-Cuban traditions, European jazz and Spanish lyricism converge in a contemporary, cross-border sound. The EP marks the artistic culmination of an intensive international journey of study and performance in the United States, Cuba and Spain, and will be recorded in Madrid with the artistic co-production of Latin Grammy winner Alain Pérez. This project signifies Julián’s definitive breakthrough as an autonomous bandleader and composer: a young voice renewing Afro-Cuban jazz and shaping it with a distinctive artistic signature.

Julián brings together Afro-Cuban rhythms, European jazz and flamenco into a bold, contemporary sound. He has performed with leading artists such as Alain Pérez, Buena Vista All Stars and Maite Hontelé, and has appeared on international stages including North Sea Jazz, the Concertgebouw and Smalls NYC. With his own Julián Garvayo Sextet, he presents original compositions in which tradition, virtuosity and personality converge, establishing himself as an innovative voice within the international jazz, Latin and world music scene.
