First Words

Jonas Blume received a grant to develop the musical project First Words. In an international quartet consisting of Edoardo Cimino (guitar), John de Martino (drums), Léna Aubert (double bass), and Jonas Blume (piano), Jonas brings together diverse cultural and musical backgrounds. He experiments with the fine line between fully composed material and improvisation. His music is characterised by compelling grooves and melodies, atmospheric harmonies, and an inspired approach to rhythm and musical form.

Jonas is a German jazz pianist and composer based in Amsterdam. He began taking drum lessons at a young age and soon discovered his passion for the piano and composition. During his studies in jazz piano and composition at the Conservatorium Maastricht, the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, and the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, he met musicians from various countries, with whom he developed his personal project First Words. Through First Words, he brings his own compositions to life, exploring the boundary between structured composition and free improvisation. The project has already taken part in several jazz competitions and finals in the Netherlands and Belgium, including the Maastricht Jazz Awards, the Dinant Jazz Festival, and B-Jazz.
