Schaap slinger steen
Anna de Bruyckere received a grant to develop a new poetry collection. In Schaap slinger steen (Sheep sling stone), poet and theatre-maker Anna explores our fascination with the underdog, and what happens when you add that one magical ingredient: time. Schaap slinger steen is a collection about fathers, daughters, and wolves in sheep’s clothing. A collection about small and large, about what it costs to grow up—and to remain small.
Anna is a writer, theatre and audio-maker, and philosopher. Her poetry debut Voor permanente bewoning (Cossee, 2020) was nominated for the Flemish Poetry Debut Prize and the Zeeland Book Prize. A new collection is forthcoming. In 2024 her first full-length podcast In mijn achtertuin (In My Backyard) was released with DOCS (NPO Radio 1), following earlier audio work for, among others, the Watersnoodmuseum, Festival Onderstroom, HulstArt, and the documentary music theatre project Rimpelingen: brieven uit Zeeland. She is currently collaborating with violist and experimental musician Michelle Pritchard on a new theatre production about the 18th-century Middelburg physician, minister, and naturalist Johannis Nettis, and the timeless question of perfection.
