Op navelhoogte de kans

Rodante van der Waal

Rodante van der Waal received a grant for the writing of her debut poetry collection. In Op navelhoogte de kans, Rodante addresses subjects often absent from poetry: from abortion to the longing for a child, from the strain on maternity care to violence against women, from living in times of war to the experience of cycles and gendered embodiment. Her poetry explores what it means to be fertile, from a position of radical self-determination and unapologetic desire. The voices of the midwife, the pregnant woman, and the daughter contend with one another in poems that are unflinchingly honest and politically charged.

Rodante is a poet, midwife, and philosopher. Her poetry has appeared in De Gids, Tirade, nY, and Samplekanon, and she holds a PhD in feminist philosophy. In 2025, she published her first book Birth Justice and her debut poetry collection Op navelhoogte de kans will be released by Nijgh & Van Ditmar.
