Jovan Smilda and Brecht Hekkema received a grant to develop new work. Plafonddienst is an absurdist, interdisciplinary music theater piece about working, lying awake, and living under systems that slowly weigh you down. In a hyper-bureaucratic office, a department sells ceiling systems while the world above begins to shift. Through live electronic music, an interactive installation, and dryly comedic performance, a hybrid show emerges where humor and unease coexist. The ceiling creaks, the rhythm accelerates, and the line between workday and night blurs. Plafonddienst makes the collision between human and system physical, musical, and palpable.

Jovan and Brecht form a new interdisciplinary company working at the intersection of performance, electronic music, and installation art. With humor and disruption, they explore how people relate to the systems that define their daily lives. Their work is characterized by live music, interactive technology, and a deadpan comedic style that renders existential themes light yet deeply felt.
