Méér Vies

Janneke Rinzema

Janneke Rinzema received a grant to develop a sensory and theatrical exhibition in collaboration with screenwriter and satire writer Sarah Jonker. This immersive exhibition aims to playfully yet provocatively question conventions surrounding femininity and intimacy. In Méér Vies, Sarah’s visual art and Janneke’s audio stories come together in a poetic, humorous, and critical whole. The interdisciplinary presentation combines Sarah’s drawings, paintings, and short videos with narratives and audio fragments written and recorded by Janneke. Through QR codes, visitors are guided on an audio tour where image, sound, and space interact to create a layered experience. Méér Vies invites visitors to surrender to an experience in which women’s bodies and lives are not polished or restrained, but instead celebrated with playfulness and without shame. The exhibition explores how women can break free—both symbolically and physically—from restrictive norms, using a mix of sharp observation, tender humour, and poetic imagery.

Janneke is a screenwriter and satire writer. For Méér Vies, she joins forces with  theatre maker and visual artist Sarah Jonker.
