HOM(M)E

Manuela Benaim, Nathan Marcus and Andreas Tegnander received a grant for the development of new work. HOM(M)E is a crossroads of fine art, technology, sound, and folklore. The project features hyper-realistic silicone bodies activated by each viewer’s electromagnetic field. As you approach, the sculptures come alive, telling stories, songs, and the memory-landscapes of three immigrants. HOM(M)E becomes a bridge between present and homeland, exploring new ways to honor, portray, archive, and preserve the cultural heritage of immigrant communities in Amsterdam.

Manuela is a Venezuelan, colombian and spanish multidisciplinary artist who works with the human body as both subject and material. She explores the intimate and vulnerable experiences that shape identity. Central to her practice is the creation of artificial skins, silicone forms onto which she recreates each person’s unique topography. These replicas become the basis for experiments across sculpture, performance, and photography.

Nathan is a Dutch creative technologist, programmer, and sound artist. Since graduating from HKU’s Music & Technology program in 2018, he has collaborated with artists across Europe on sound design, custom instruments, and interactive installations.

Andreas is a Norwegian composer, sound artist, and multimedia creator based in Amsterdam. With a background in media technology and sonocommunication (Sonic College, DK), he develops works that translate live data, such as movement, wind, or dancers’ gestures, into sound.
