Forget-Me-Not

Cinzia Nistico received a grant for the development of new work. Forget-Me-Not is an expanded cinema performance combining 16mm b/we film, live trumpet, projection and spatial staging. Loosely inspired by the Event Horizon Imager, the work imagines three astronauts in separate spacecraft trying to observe a rotating black hole through shared data. A slight deviation in alignment gradually destabilises the whole system: signals begin to drift, responses arrive too late and reality can no longer be reconstructed as one shared moment. Rather than telling a linear story, the performance recreates this mechanism of desynchronisation through image, sound, communication and live performance. Through analog film, optical sound and live trumpet, Forget-Me-Not reflects on abandonment, becoming irrelevant and the difficulty of sustaining attention and care for what remains distant, fragmented or only partially understood.

Cinzia is an Amsterdam-based artist working with analog film, expanded cinema and performance. Her practice explores existence, identity, memory and the fragile relation between the individual and the world around them. She is interested in forms of being that are not defined by biography, belonging or fixed identity, but by transformation, perception and connection. Treating 16mm film as a material presence rather than only as a support for images, she works with projection, optical sound, live music and spatial arrangements to question what can be considered alive, visible or present, from the smallest particle to a larger cosmic whole.
