Beyond the nuclear family

Mirthe Berentsen

Mirthe Berentsen received a grant to develop a unique covered wagon tour of the Netherlands, inspired by Dolle Mina's legendary parade in 1972. In it, performance, literature and visual art will merge into a Gesamtkunstwerk.

Mirthe is a writer, essayist and artist. In both her writing and visual work, questioning the status quo is central. She writes reviews and essays for various newspapers and magazines on art, feminism and care (including in NRC Handelsblad, Vrij Nederland, De GroeneAmsterdammer, De Volkskrant, Metropolis M, German Die Welt and international art magazines such as Art Asia Pacific, Modern Painters, Spike Magazine, Art Basel and Sleek). Her visual work was recently on show at Miriam Gallery (New York, USA) and she is working on a new book and a podcast with publisher Das Mag on the politicisation the family and the importance of imagination.
