THAY

Sabine van Wechem received a contribution to develop her new documentary film. THAY is a film about young black queer woman Thay, who grows up in a favela in Rio de Janeiro in an arena of poverty and violence. Thay brims with joie de vivre and is in the midst of searching for her identity and sexuality to live a free and independent life.

Sabine van Wechem is a Dutch photographer and filmmaker. With her work, she explores how people living in a physically or socially sealed environment create a form of freedom. Van Wechem works on long-term documentary stories that focus on themes of intimacy and freedom.
