Shared Silences

Ece Era

Ece Era received a grant for the development of new work. This project is a cycle of short video fragments filmed in Istanbul, each capturing a quiet moment between the artist and a stray animal. Her connection with strays is rooted in growing up in fear and silence shaped by family dynamics, and these encounters remain central to how she understands safety and attention. Through fixed frames and minimal intervention, the work focuses on the personal pain at its core, while leaving space for the viewer to take their own meaning from each moment.

Ece is a Turkish artist working across music and film. She studied philosophy and film theory before completing a master’s in documentary filmmaking at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Her work blends sound and image through experimental approaches that challenge conventional forms.
