L'Etoile de la Rue
Sethi Djegane Gueye received a grant for the realisation of L’Étoile de la Rue. This documentary follows a young basketball player from Dakar whose ambitions clash with the realities of life in the Senegalese capital. Inspired by Steve James’ Hoop Dreams, the film explores themes of perseverance, community, and the tension between hope and disappointment. Through an observational style and intimate interviews, the film captures both the physical battles on the court and the mental challenges of chasing a dream with an uncertain outcome. L’Étoile de la Rue portrays how sport can be a powerful source of hope, while the road to success remains as unpredictable as life itself. The title refers to the “star of the street,” a symbol of resilience and aspiration.
