Yang-Ha

Yang-Ha received a contribution to conduct artistic research. This research aims to expand the Yang-Ha's painting research by focusing on experimenting a range of new materials; ceramic, Styrofoam, 3D printing. She has studied explosion imagery on the societal mediator of violence since 2020. To effectively convey this theme, the artistic expression is expanded beyond painting to encompass various media. Through experimentation with installation media, the goal is to extend the imagery of explosions into real space, symbolizing the inexorable violence (the reasons behind explosions) regardless of time and space.

Yang-Ha is a visual artist that adopts a cynical perspective towards the violence around us, using thin layers and pastel tones to express it in paintings. She represents real-world violence that is consumed lightly through the media by projecting it into visual outcomes such as explosions and tears. Rather than deepening narrative by giving specific backgrounds or situations, she visualizes complex contradictions that arise during the process of perception by decontextualizing reality and employing paintings and space.
