Come look through my windows
Vita Soul Wilmering received a grant for the development of new work. For Come look through my windows, Vita Soul delves into the fibres of her personal archive of film footage as research for a new video installation. The installation brings together moving and powerful film scenes into a five-screen environment. Each scene questions, in a different way, how we deal with major changes, non-self-evident circumstances, or a past that continues to resonate inseparably in the present. Documentary encounters intertwine with reenacted memories, inviting viewers to reflect on what we choose to remember and what we forget.
Vita Soul works as an artist, filmmaker, performer, and musician. She is currently based in The Hague and has her studio at Billytown, where she enjoys organising collaborations and projects. Documentary events form the foundation of her practice, and she regards the performative space created by the presence of a camera as a tool for building friendships and for communicating intimately with the people she films. The process of making often becomes part of the work itself. By playing with elements of fiction, she allows people to move between role and reality, raising questions about how one relates to personal and family histories, and how we deal with loss.
