Cast us steaming on the fields
Dennis Muñoz Espadiña received a grant for the research project Cast us steaming on the fields. With this project, he continues his exploration of the archaeological qualities of the animation medium. The point of departure is the social and ecological traces and remnants left behind by mining in Western Europe. During this research period, Muñoz will carry out several short in situ field studies and develop storyboards. This will serve as the foundation for a larger production project scheduled for the summer and autumn of 2026.
Dennis is an artist who has been based in Rotterdam since 2018. His artistic practice encompasses publications, performances, installations, and more recently, animation. He runs Hocus Bogus Publishing, a project he initiated in 2015 to share artistic “B-side” material through print. Initially focused on distributing zines and marginal artistic content, Hocus Bogus has since evolved into a participatory process of printing and publishing. Since 2022, Dennis has been running Hocus Bogus from Roodkapje, an art space in Rotterdam, where he offers workshops and mentorship in Riso stencil printing. His work often connects print with performative interventions and larger projects, combining different artistic disciplines. Recently, Dennis has shown a growing interest in experimental animation, exploring new ways of integrating this medium into his existing artistic practices.
