Annika the Art Teacher
Doris Boerman received a grant to develop a new project. Annika the Art Teacher is a project investigating the presence of the normative (cis gender) female body in Western art history and in contemporary pop culture. It questions the nude, commodification and fetishization of the female body while delving into the role of art and the position of the artist in today's society.
Doris is a visual artist working in the media of sculpture, installation and performance. In her practice, she explores the overlapping aspects between the normative (cis gender) female body as a postmodern presentational model for identity and the exhibition space as a Modernist presentational model for art. Within this framework, she focuses on the fusion of high and low culture, femininity, sexuality and architecture.
