With No Agency
From 28 May to 30 August 2026, the work With No Agency by Avi Krispin will be shown as part of the group exhibition A. Beginning at Beautiful Distress.
The work explores how new beginnings often arrive uninvited and unexpectedly. While we tend to frame a new chapter as a positive, deliberate choice, many such changes are in fact shaped by circumstance—illness, relocation, relationships, or conflict. Sometimes these shifts are major turning points; other times, they are subtle adjustments that nonetheless recalibrate everything. These are moments when agency is limited, yet life still demands adaptation.
With No Agency combines photography and a multi-channel video installation, featuring film dummies with real people’s heads and arms seamlessly integrated. Using the larger-than-life aesthetics of cinema, the work articulates something intimate and internal: the psychological weight of adapting when you cannot control the timing or conditions.
Avi is a video maker, writer, and object maker. Her practice spans video, installation, and photography, deconstructing and referencing media, entertainment, and social platforms. With humour, she addresses themes such as heroism, honour, and collective anxiety.
