Gallinazo
The short film Gallinazo by Daniel Jacoby has been nominated for the Golden Calf Competition in the Short Documentary category. Its Dutch premiere will take place during the Netherlands Film Festival.
Images of an exclusive beach club in Peru form the core of this artistic exploration into how we relate to places we hold dear. Daniel recounts the story of a beach in Lima three times, one he visited as a child with his parents. He remembers the people, the symmetrically arranged parasols, and the brightly colored boats. How different it was three centuries earlier, when a European naturalist collapsed on the same beach and was visited by a vulture. What happened there exposes a prejudice that would outlive them both.
Daniel is a Peruvian visual artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His work moves at the intersection of film, sculpture, and installation.
