Aminal is a visual, interactive street theater performance by Wojciech Stachura for young audiences and families. The event is part of Het Amsterdamse Straat Theater. Participation is free.

On stilts, a large, hairy, and fiery creature — half animal, half soul (âme + animal) — awakens, escaping its handler’s control with a burning desire for connection. It wanders, amazed and full of energy, exploring the world through scent, touch, and playful curiosity. During a grotesque, clumsy escape from its caretaker’s grasp, the handler calls on the audience (children and adults alike) to help tame the strange being. Through touch, petting, and laughter, a first bond forms. In this way, Aminal actively involves the audience in the play, blurring the line between performer and spectator.

The performance features a richly designed puppet with a sensory skin. Beneath its fur lie various textures for the audience to feel, and hidden tubes allow it to sneeze, sniff, or tremble with excitement.

The show is non-verbal, accessible, and universal: a celebration of play, touch, and togetherness in public space after times of isolation.
