ALLES MOET KAPOT
As part of FIELD TRIP during the Jonge Harten theatre festival, Sam Verhaeren presents his performance ALLES MOET KAPOT, in which he explores how violence can arise from boredom. Sam grew up in a small village where little ever happened, except for the occasional outburst of violence. Counting no more than 5,000 inhabitants, the village somehow managed to make the news more often than an average-sized city. Sam too, was not spared from these eruptions of aggression.
In a visually and physically expressive style, Sam collaborates with actress Jantien Fick to explore how a life of hopeless monotony can lead to acts of destruction in the desperate hope of feeling something, anything. The hope to feel that life is worth living. For the youngsters who drive with nitrous oxide balloons in hand, for those who drink themselves into a coma, and for those who simply don’t know what to do with their lives.
FIELD TRIP is a short walking route through Groningen, where you step three times into the world of a new maker. Sam, Jantien, and Juersson Hermanus each share a 15–20-minute exploration, not a finished performance, but a glimpse into their artistic process, research, and experimentation.
