MOK 6004 (geen Tsjechov)

Romke Gabe Draaijer

Romke Gabe Draaijer received a contribution to develop a new theater project. MOK 6004 (geen Tsjechov) will be a multilingual audio-hanging installation above an opened fish stall questioning the status quo and naturalness of how we as humans relate to nature. This through the eyes of herring gulls, based on scientific research. The project is produced by Firma Draaijer&DeVries in collaboration with the Oerol Festival.

"A friend of mine recently moved out west. There she now invariably sits at a fancy French fry shop, somewhere in Amsterdam-Zuid. One of those where they throw Parmesan over the fries and top croquettes with dill mayonnaise and pickled onions, you know? Strolling is the new foraging," she keeps saying. And somewhere she's right too, why pick mussels on a breakwater when you can eat off the ground there?"

Romke constantly explores the crossover between theater and other art disciplines; this around the themes of identity, queerness and normativity, always relating to identity/human-nature. Through fairy-like and visual worlds, he tries to question the status quo, make the world a little more beautiful and confront the spectator with his own thoughts. Performances that serve as a critical alternative to normativity, which often produces an internal confrontation in the viewer.
