Hoe een hengel op de post gaat
Malou Palmboom received a grant to develop an interactive theatre experience. For this project, Malou draws inspiration from the imagination and fascinations of young children and people with dementia to create Hoe een hengel op de post gaat. The project has a performative nature, in which Malou appears as a postwoman delivering visual letters to her audience. These mail pieces are not meant to be read, but to be discovered through the senses. Combinations of surprising materials such as felt, wood, fabric, light filters, magnets, carpet, beads, Velcro, paper, plastic, and foam can be explored. The recognisable yet abstract nature of the mail items invites imagination, sparks memories, stimulates fine motor skills, and encourages interaction.
Malou graduated with a BA in Theatre Design from HKU. Since then, she has worked as a scenographer, creating interactive performances and installations. Her work operates at the intersection of visual art and theatre. Malou is a socially engaged artist who values direct contact with her audience and often works with and for groups that may not yet have easy access to art. Her work creates space for wonder, connection, experimentation, and creation. In doing so, it stimulates and nourishes the audience’s creativity, aiming to contribute to a more resilient, empathetic, and joyful way of being. Sustainability is a key pillar of her practice, and participation and the joy of trying are central to her work.
