Henna Night Reimagined: Unveiling the Spectrum of Self

Can Bora

Can Bora received a contribution to develop the performance Henna Night Reimagined: Unveiling the Spectrum of Self. At the core of the performance lies a ritual centered around the emancipation of self. The queer character embarks on a profound journey to regain their autonomy and liberate themselves from the constraints of a subjugated body. This transformative odyssey serves as a powerful symbol, representing the reclamation of one's identity and inner fortitude within the context of breaking free from the confines of heteronormative norms that limit gender expression, normativity, conventional expectations, and societal pressures. This journey serves as a poignant exploration of self-empowerment and the quest for authenticity.

Can is an interdisciplinary queer artist who was born in Istanbul and currently lives and works in Amsterdam. His works involve collaboration with new media, specifically the Green Box Technique, which allows for simultaneous editing on the stage. Can's art mainly focuses on exploring the felt-sense of the human body as a tool for re-interrogating systems, structures, and disciplines. He works across performing arts, video, and installation, exploring eroticism, national identity, hospitality, and the connections between bodies.
