Dedalo, in zee opgegaan

Richard Hemker is working on a diptych set in the Mediterranean world of the sixteenth century. Dedalo, uit zee opgestaan was published in the spring of 2022. The new volume Dedalo, in zee opgegaan is scheduled for the spring of 2023. Hemker previously published the short story collection Scherzo (Querido, 2009) and the novel Hoogmoed (Van Oorschot, 2016).

With visible pleasure and fabulous detail, Richard Hemker melds vastly different worlds into a multifaceted story that moves from Italy, through the Balkans to Constantinople. And Dedalo, risen from the sea turns out to be more than the lore. Hemker paints in crystal-clear colors the facets of a world that seems to have disappeared, but thanks to his idiosyncratic storytelling talent, sparklingly revives.
