We’re Here, My Dear

Marina Menéndez-Pidal

Marina Menéndez-Pidal received a grant to create an interdisciplinary performance in collaboration with Laura Fernández Antolín. We’re Here, My Dear is a performance that blends graphic design, costume design, sound, and public space to create an immersive experience of navigating the night as queer and femme-presenting individuals. Rooted in both the joy and vulnerability of walking after dark, the piece explores the dangers and resilience of moving through public spaces while fostering a sense of collective strength and play. With custom-designed costumes that evolve as living archives, the performers — women, feminine-presenting people, and trans women — interact through discreet communication devices, creating a real-time connection and shared experience. The project challenges the traditional fears of the night, transforming urban spaces into stages of resistance, visibility, and solidarity. We’re Here, My Dear reclaims the night as a space of possibility, connection, and collective power.

Marina and Laura are two artists whose work explores the intersection of body, space, and identity. Laura is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in radical care. They use textiles, drawing, writing, and performance to engage with the body, intimacy, and community, creating immersive experiences that question gender, trust, and collective resilience. Marina, an artist and graphic designer based in Rotterdam, brings a deep curiosity for the night and the mundane into her design and artistic practice. With a background in Information Design from Design Academy Eindhoven, Marina explores the transformative power of walking through public space and the role of design in creating useful and meaningful experiences. Together, they collaborate on We’re Here, My Dear, a performance that merges graphic design, costume design, sound, and public space to create a shared journey of visibility, connection, and solidarity.
