Pembe & Eflatun

Minem Sezgin de Boer

Pembe & Eflatun is an animated short film that takes as its starting point the acclaimed short story Pembe ve Eflatun, written by Hande Ortaç. The film explores the aftermath of war in a world plagued by severe drought and limited food resources. The story follows innkeeper couple Pembe and Eflatun, who open their doors to a group of stranded refugee women and children. As the refugees make themselves at home, a series of secrets come to light about how the couple managed this ex-prison, now inn.

Minem Sezgin de Boer creates and performs stories in various forms. One of her latest works is the graphic novel No Seat At The Table about gentrification and the housing crisis in Turkey and the Netherlands. One of its final presentations was at the Tokyo Art Book Fair in late 2022.
